Gene regulation

Gene regulation Checkpoints
1) Transcription Regulation: promoter sequences on DNA interaction with RNA polymerase
2) RNA processing: putting on the 5’ cap of failing to do so
- splicing out introns
3) Translational Control: ex. PRF
4) RNA degradation: RNAi (interference) – double stranded RNAs match mRNA »> that mRNA broken down by enzyme
5) Post-translational Control: modifications made to proteins after translation.
Ex: - addition of carbohydrates
- Phosphorylation of proteins (addition of phosphate)
6) DNA rearrangements: recombination of DNA segments prior to transcription
