This new discovery (well, 100 years ago) is very interesting simply b/c while in previous college courses, it is said that sponges are everythings' true "baby daddies." But this article provides new evidence and offers a little knowledge on evolution as well, subjects being covered in the EFMB book. And in the article it states that "corals, jellyfish, sponges , comb jellies and Placozoans (aka the "lower" animals) evolved in parallel to "higher" animals including flatworms, insects, mollusks and chordates (which includes all animals with backbones, ranging from frogs to apes and humans)." I find this mind "bottling" (yes, i have seen Blades of Glory, and I hope you have also) but seriously, this new information changes the outlook on evolution and our true origins as well. Very interesting article, and even more intriguing to read.
